MARCH — One of my favorite months, it was a whirlwind of adventure and celebrations. Now, I often hear people tell me that “March is the worst month of the year!” and while I might politely nod along, I find it hard to agree. Perhaps because it’s my birthday month, I’m a bit biased, but I think March is a wonderful month. The first signs of spring begin to appear, a random warm and sunny day will instantly revive the spirit and, of course, I get the extra benefit of having a birthday to celebrate in the middle of the month.

In this journey to craft a more elegant life, I’ve found that it’s helpful to plan out out different activities, events and hobbies I want to try or experience. I strive to plan something that will bring beauty, joy, art and connection — whether that’s a nature walk with my family, meeting a friend for lunch, traveling, or taking a class.

If the idea of crafting a more elegant life sounds interesting to you, I encourage you to revisit this space often. You may also be intrigued by my annual Elevate Your Everyday Challenge. What is that? It’s my signature 31 day new year challenge focused on creating a vision for your most elegant year yet. I am fortunate to share this time with wonderful likeminded women from around the world — it’s a special time I look forward to each year. Together, we define our personal values, set smart goals toward accomplishing our dreams and identify small, ingenious habits we can add to our day to create what we all strive for: a more elegant life.

If that sounds interesting to you, send me a quick note to join the waitlist for next year.

I want to take you on my journey to create my most elegant year yet, and I hope the things I share inspire you to create an elegant life you love!

Join me and take a moment to reflect on MARCH: An Elegant Month in Review.

Building on the foundation that was set during the Elevate Your Everyday Challenge, March brought the opportunity to continuing practicing good habits while striving to embrace new experiences and make progress toward my personal and professional goals.

The month began with a lovely wedding and ended with a quick trip to Chicago for Spring Break. In between, we visited the Henry Ford museum, spent time in Detroit, indulged in oysters, enjoyed the beauty of nature and art, and connected with dear friends.

March is my favorite month, and why shouldn’t it be? It’s my birthday month! I’m always grateful for another year of growth and learning through the experiences of life. This past year was beautiful and challenging, as life with a newborn and growing family can often be. There were so many wonderful moments, and the sense of a new year with new opportunities ahead fills me with excitement.

I was able to celebrate my birthday with my parents, in-laws, and of course, my husband and children. Bryan and I spent an afternoon in Detroit visiting the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle followed by lunch at Le Suprême, which was just delightful (read more about our adventure here). I also had a chance to meet a few friends for lunch and attended a custom fragrance making class at Sfumato, which I shared about here.

I appreciate all the wonderful birthday wishes I received and I’m looking forward to making #37 the best year yet.

March began with a wedding, which was a fun excuse to get dressed up and celebrate with friends! I love weddings and always enjoy the details that make each wedding unique to the couple. The mass took place at our childhood parish, the same one we were married at, which is always special to return to and experience as a guest. I found the perfect green dress from Ferne Boutique that I can’t wait to wear again. Bryan and I had so much fun celebrating love and our friends who are embarking on the adventure of marriage!

The dancing continued with the Mother Son Game Night, a special night with Conor that I look forward to each year. We went out to dinner, did some shopping and then played games and danced the night away! Conor is growing up so fast and I truly cherish these special moments we share together.

We had the opportunity to watch our niece play in a basketball tournament and catch up with friends visiting from out of town, a special and unexpected visit that served as a highlight of our month! Midway through the month, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a visit from a silly leprechaun and a traditional dinner of soda bread and stew. I had fun using the skills I gained from the flower arranging class I took in February and created a special arrangement for St. Patrick’s Day. I was then able to repurpose it from a fun, colorful arrangement that delighted friends we hosted for a taco night!

In the United States, March is Reading Month, which kept me busy volunteering at the school for several events, including the book fair and being a Mystery Reader for Alice’s classroom! (I read one of our favorite books, Table Manners for Tigers). I share what books I read this month below!

The month of March moved quickly, warming us up for the busy spring season just around the corner. The daffodils I planted in the spring have burgeoned from the cold ground and the sun hitting the freshly fallen rain is resplendent.

This month read Ina Garten’s memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens. It was an inspiring read that felt right for the season. I enjoyed learning more about Ina Garten’s career and how she built the Barefoot Contessa brand. As an independent business owner, it’s encouraging to hear stories of how brands have been built and the reminder that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, unwavering belief in yourself, and the courage to keep moving forward. I’m now looking forward to trying some of the recipes included in the book!

I also listened to the audiobook version of Home Sweet Maison, which is included in my Spotify subscription. It’s a book that’s often caught my eye, so when I noticed it was available to listen to for free, I decided to check it out! It was a light and easy listen, and if anything, inspired me to organize my kitchen drawers and get started on spring cleaning. The book focuses on what makes a French home special, and how you can apply those same principals to your own home.

Speaking of food and French living, this month our family adopted “le goûter” the French expression for afternoon snack. Inspired by my dear friend Natalie Paul, I began to prepare fruit and vegetable platters for Conor and Alice to enjoy right when they arrived home. I couldn’t believe how well the snack boards were received and now they both look forward to having a healthy snack after school. I shared more about this experience as well as etiquette advice for healthy living as a guest on the “You Had Me At Healthy” podcast which is cohosted by Natalie and her husband, Jonathan!

March came to a close with the start of Spring Break. We hosted our friends for a Taco Night and watched basketball before packing up and heading out of town for some much needed time to relax and connect as a family.

We decided to plan a trip to Chicago and enjoy a few days exploring one of our favorite cities. Only a four hour drive away, it’s a great option for a weekend trip with the kids. Alice especially loves visiting Chicago and seems to soak up the energy around her, exploring and sharing her opinions with confidence!

I’ll be sharing more about our trip in a separate post so be sure to check back for my Chicago with Kids Travel Guide!

Overall, March was a wonderful month filled with elegant events and joyful time spent with friends and family. While there was plenty of time to enjoy our friends and family, I also had the opportunity to share the secrets of modern etiquette with the sweetest Girl Scouts Troop and private clients, through this blog, as a podcast guest and through social media.

Teaching etiquette brings me so much joy, but it’s seeing these timeless tools foster confidence, community and connection that truly lights me up and continues to drive my passion for making modern etiquette approachable and accessible to everyone.

As you look toward the year ahead, remember that elegance is a state of mind; a simple and ingenious approach to a charmed life. If you desire it, you can create a life filled with beauty, elegance and connection. It simply requires a bit of intention, effort and a willingness to try something new.

Take time to plan out a few things just for you to enjoy next month. Maybe lunch at a new restaurant, meeting a friend for coffee, or trying a new hobby. Whatever it may be, an elegant life is yours to create!

What was your favorite thing about March? Did you experience something new? I’d love to know!

Leave a comment and share your most elegant moment this month.
